MELKSHAM Town manager Darren Perrin was disappointed his side conceded a late equaliser at Cadbury Heath in a 1-1 draw on Wednesday night.

Perrin’s side took the lead just after half-time when Gary Higdon converted from the spot in the 50th minute.

But with just two minutes of the 90 remaining, Melksham fell victim to a last-gasp equaliser when the hosts scored from a set piece.

“It was a hard-fought game. It was just a little bit disappointing to concede in the 88th minute. I thought we had done enough to win the game,” said the Melksham boss.

“But we got done from a set piece late on, which was a little bit disappointing. I was happy with our second-half performance. We didn’t play well in the first but we were more like Melksham Town in the second.

“We had to make two substitutions early on because of injuries. Personally, I don’t understand why we are playing so often.”

Perrin is confused by the amount of games his team have had to play but is content with his start to the season despite Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Bristol Manor Farm.

“You wouldn’t get this at the top level and they get paid hundreds of thousands. Our lads get nothing and play every three days, but that’s making excuses,” added Perrin.

“It’s a steady start. We have earned on average two points a game but I think we should have an extra four but that is just me. I would have taken it before.

“We just need to make sure that we win on Saturday against Sherborne Town to make sure we maintain momentum.”

Bradford Town have enjoyed a much more positive run of results, with a 1-0 win on Tuesday night thanks to a Matthew Morris effort.

Tuesday’s victory elongated their unbeaten start to the season, with a 3-1 win on Saturday with goals from Morris, Michael Reaney and Daniel Cottle, making it six matches unbeaten.

They travel to The Lawns to face 12th-placed Cribbs on Saturday afternoon.
