PEWSEY Vale bounced back from a 5-0 defeat with an impressive 4-2 win over Alton Town at the weekend.

It was a welcome home win after Adi Holcombe’s men were whacked 5-0 in their opening Sydenhams League fixture by Laverstock & Ford, although the victory was marred by an injury to Kristian Greer, who required an ambulance after twisting his knee, forcing a 40-minute delay to the match.

“I’m still waiting for an update but we don’t think it is as bad as we first thought, he’s had a scan and there is no ligament damage, just a lot of swelling,'' said boss Adi Holcombe.

“He picked the ball up in midfield and his knee went, there was no challenge. It was clear when he did it he was in a lot of pain.

Vale took three minutes to find a lead when David Flanagan put the home side ahead, only to be pegged back when Curtis Thorn equalised.

After the game resumed Micky Martin’s goal put Pewsey back in pole position.

Alton drew level again when Declan Shuttleworth made it 2-2 after half time.

But Flanagan and Martin both doubled their goal tallies to wrap up victory for Vale.

“I am absolutely chuffed, everyone was looking at the form after Laverstock & Ford but it was a really good win,'' added Holcombe.

“We went one up, it was our own mistake for conceding, we should have just got it out. It was the same for the second, we got caught in possession, we need to play football in the right areas.”

“It was just a good all round win, it’s nice to get three points on the board.” He added.
