Perrin and Gregan take charge of Mangos

FORMER Chippenham Town manager Darren Perrin has been named Mangotsfield United assistant manager.

He takes over at Cossham Street alongside new boss Frank Gregan, who arrives from Weston-super-Mare.

The Mangos, who play in the same division as the Bluebirds, the Southern Premier, have been looking for a manager after Lee Howells resigned at the end of the season.

Perrin had been linked to a return to the dug out after five months away as manager, but denied these rumours yesterday only to take the assistant job today.

"I've not applied and I have heard all the rumours linking me with it but I will not be Mangotsfield's new manager," said Perrin, who was sacked by the Bluebirds in February, on Monday.

The 38-year-old had also made the short list of three for the Western-super-Mare hotseat last month, and admitted he wanted to get back into the game.

"I love football," he said. "Whether it is the Wiltshire League or the Premier League I just enjoy my football."

A statement on the club's website reads:

Mangotsfield United Football Club are delighted to announce the appointment of Frank Gregan as first team manager. Darren Perrin has been named as assistant manager along with Mike Kilgour as first team coach.

Frank Gregan arrives at the club from Weston Super Mare boasting a wealth of experience and an impressive CV. Since his first managerial role at Andover in the early nineties he enjoyed great success at Forest Green Rovers, guiding the club to the Dr Martens League Southern Division championship in 1996/97, this was followed up by Premier Division title in the 1997/98 season and promotion to the Conference. The success continued with an FA Trophy final appearance in the 1998/99 campaign. More recently he led Weston Super Mare to promotion to the Southern League Premier Division which was quickly followed by acceptance to Conference South during the recent non league re-structuring.

Assistant manager Darren Perrin is well know to the Cossham Street faithful after successful spells as manager of Melksham Town, Paulton Rovers and Chippenham Town where he enjoyed perhaps his greatest achievement by taking the club to the first round proper of the FA Cup in 2005.

Newly appointed coach Mike Kilgour enjoyed a long and distinguished playing career before first being enticed into a coaching role with Forest Green Rovers in 1999. In recent times he has been involved in a coaching capacity at Weston Super Mare.
