DIVISION One Heytesbury duly landed this season’s CDP Supply-sponsored Spring Cup with a 1-0 extra-time victory over second division Luxol St Andrews Reserves on Wednesday evening.

Shaun Tarr was the villagers' hero, scoring the only goal of the game in the third minute of extra time, after Luxol had spurned the best of the few chances in the 90 minutes.

In what was an end-to-end opening to the game the first real chance of note fell to Luxol’s Storm Brand, who headed over from close range on 10 minutes.

A few minutes later Luxol’s Ben Howlett drove a free kick into the safe hands of Heytesbury’s keeper Sam Spratt.

Heytesbury best chance went to Ashley Caws who went one on one with Luxol keeper Kieran Ramsey in the 29th minute and on this occasion it was Ramsey who came out on top.

Two minutes later, Luxol felt aggrieved when they had a strong appeal for a penalty turned down after Howlett appeared to be pulled down in the area.

As the first half drew to a close, Heytesbury keeper Spratt did well to keep out a George Hall free kick.

Luxol started the second half on the front foot and wasted a golden opportunity to break the deadlock in the 52nd minute, Howlett pushing the ball wide of both the advancing Spratt and the upright.

Spratt came to his team's rescue on 60 minutes he brilliantly tipped Hall’s effort over the bar.

With time running out Heytesbury’s Brendan Hind found himself unmarked but fluffed his lines and scooped the ball over the bar from 12 yards when he really should have tested keeper Ramsey.

With no further chances in the game went to added time where Referee Neil Taylor was replaced by fourth official Neil Hawker and within a few minutes the final had its opening goal.

Caws picked the ball up in midfield and found Tarr who kept his head and planted the ball home to score what was to be the winner.

On the stroke of half time, Tarr went close to adding a second when he thumped a free kick against the post.

In the second half Luxol gave everything they had as they searched for an equaliser and for the second time in the game they had a penalty appeal waved away for what looked to be a foul on Rhys Gibbons just seconds after keeper Spratt had denied Natti Morgan the chance to take it to penalties.

The trophies on the evening were presented by Tom Parr and Matthew Giles on behalf of sponsors CDP Supply.

Heytesbury’s Caws received the player of the match award.
