WITH two matches in hand on both Warminster Town Reserves and Potterne and just one and three points behind their respective rivals at the top of Division One, the race for the number one spot has swung in favour of Luxol St Andrews.

Luxol moved into third spot above two-time defending champions Freshford United with a 6-3 victory at Aces FC.

Goals from Aaron Cockerill and Shavon Allen put Luxol 2-0 ahead, Phil Little reduced the deficit for Aces who found themselves 3-1 at the interval, Mark Reynolds scoring Luxol’s third of the afternoon.

The second period saw Aces get back on level terms courtesy of goals for Mike Little and Dan Hatcher.

The introduction of Dan Jones swung the game back in favour of Luxol, substitute Jones scoring twice to make it 5-3 and a second from Allen completed the 6-3 success.

Near-neighbours Hilperton United and Semington Magpies met at Whaddon Lane and drew 1-1.

Hilperton took a half-time lead through Tom Blackman and Semington levelled when Dale Rowland turned the ball home.

After opening up the title race last weekend with a 1-0 victory over leaders Warminster Town Reserves, Craig Campbell took his Potterne side to Weymouth Street for the reverse fixture.

Leading 2-0 at one stage they were heading for the number one spot, but Warminster turned things around with two goals of their own to snatch a 2-2 draw that keeps them in pole position for the time being.

Darren Lewis headed Potterne into the lead on 40 minutes and when Kyle Davies made it 2-0 in the 65th minute it looked as if it was game over for Warminster.

That wasn’t the case as Carl Clarke dragged Warminster back into the game and Matt Dyer grabbed what may yet prove to be an important goal which earned his team a share of the points.
