MELKSHAM Town’s hopes of securing promotion to the Southern League were ended on Tuesday night.

Darren Perrin’s side, who arein action tonight in the Wiltshire Senior Cup final against Salisbury, needed to finish third in the table if they were begin life in their new Woolmore Farm ground at a higher level.

However, the reigning champions were consigned to another season in the Toolstation League when Bristol Manor Farm defeated league leaders Odd Down 1-0 to move four points clear of Melksham with one game left.

Last Saturday, Melksham had to come from a goal down at Bitton to win 2-1.

The hosts took a controversial 1-0 lead into the interval when they rolled the ball into the net after Perrin’s players stopped when the assistant referee raised his flag for offside, however, the goal stood.

The visitors were back on level terms 10 minutes into the second half when Callum Demkiv tapped home Ricky Hulbert’s cross.

Melksham wrapped up the points three minutes later thanks to Shaun Benison.

On Saturday, the Conigre men waved goodbye to their home and the league season with a visit from Barnstaple.
