Corsham chairman next to quit?

Corsham chairman John Gingell Corsham chairman John Gingell

CORSHAM Town chairman John Gingell said he could follow Colin Bush out of the Southbank.

The Toolstation League Premier Division champions were thrown into disarray on Friday after Bush resigned, three weeks after winning the title.

He cited he felt he has taken the club as far he could and his decision has forced an emergency committee meeting tonight.

Now Gingell, 63, admits he will consider his position before a scheduled meeting next Monday.

"I shall review my position in the next seven days," said Gingell, who has been at the Southbank for 34 years.

"I have done all I can to get people (sponsors and supporters) down there so it might be time to leave. I'm not twisted, if someone wanted to come in and help then I would be quite happy to vacate whenever."

Just weeks after the euphoria of a title triumph, Bush, who won manager of the year at the league's awards on Saturday, and all his backroom staff, including assistant John Woods have left.

Gingell now knows it is a crucial time for the club.

"It is a crossroads and it is case of after the Lord Mayor's show, Nobby (Bush) was everything to the club," he said.

"Scott Lye will probably go and we have also lost a few to retirement so, before a new manager even comes in, he are looking for four or five players.

"Looking into the crystal ball it is a case of holding on to what we have got and hope we avoid relegation."

There have been no formal applications or declarations of interest but Gingell, despite his uncertain future, wants a new man in quickly.

Malmesbury Victoria manager Tommy Dryden, who left Corsham Reserves last season, is a possible replacement.

He said: " We need someone as soon as possible but I've not heard from anyone yet.

"If someone rang me up today then we would consider them and Tommy has done very well this season."

Gingell expects Bush, who is on his summer holiday this week, to find another job quickly.

"He made it clear he wanted to step up to Southern League and unfortunately we don't have the money to do that," he said.

"Mangotsfield has been mentioned but they usually promote ex-players and local lads.

"Bristol Manor Farm is another but I'm not sure he would want to go there."
