WESTBURY Town put the disappointment of Tuesday night’s A&B Cup final defeat against Freshford United behind them and they picked up the victory they needed to see them deservedly crowned Division Two champions.

An 8-1 victory for the long time leaders away at Zeals saw them stretch their 100 per cent winning league record to 12 matches leaving them just two victories away from a perfect campaign.

Joe Maloney top scored with a hat-trick, Jack Hayward and Jake Packer scored two each and Kyle Matthews made it 8-0 before Joao Rodrigues scored a late consolation for the villagers.

A 3-0 victory for Melksham Town A at Trowbridge Town Reserves on Monday evening saw them move into second spot, but they were unable to consolidate their position on Saturday afternoon after they suffered a 4-1 loss away at third-placed Luxol St Andrews Reserves who they had beaten 9-2 just a few weeks ago.

Luxol replaced Barry Holloway’s side in the second automatic promotion, but having completed their fixtures and with both Melksham and Calne Eagles with games to play they are unlikely to remain where they are, but for the time being they will bask in their victory.

Ben Howlett double gave Luxol a 2-0 interval lead, Howlett then completed his hat trick before Will Jacomb reduced Melkshams arrears. Storm Brand sealed Luxol’s win when he head in number 4.

Trowbridge Town Reserves and Calne Eagles shared a point apiece in an open entertaining game at Woodmarsh.

These dropped points mean that Calne Eagles will have to beat Melksham in their final game to have any chance of finishing higher than fourth place.

Trowbridge took the lead after 15 minutes when a defensive mistake let in Trowbridge’s top scorer Simon Parfitt who coolly slotted the ball past goalkeeper Andy Windsor.

Calne hit back before half time when a long throw from Karl Sharratt was flicked on by Brett Cullen and Adam Welch guided his header past Jordan Tucker in Trowbridge’s goal.

In the second half Trowbridge upped their game and were probably unlucky not to claim all three points.

Not for first time this season Calne were bailed out by their goalkeeper Andy Windsor, who denied both Aaron McCaldon and Kyle Morgan-Hemmens when they were clean through on goal.

At the other end Danny Heap had a goal ruled when he headed home another Karl Sharratt long throw.
