CALNE Town slipped to a fourth defeat in five games as they were edged out at Chard Town last weekend.

Neurin Jones’ men fell behind with seven minutes on the clock at Zembard Lane as a miskick by goalkeeper Steve Allison fell to the hosts’ Braeden Symes, who made no mistake in accepting the gift to make it 1-0.

Shortly afterwards, Stuart Windsor struck the bar from a Nathan Phillimore free-kick but in the 25th minute, the visitors’ Marcus Lovesey was penalised in the area as the ball flew up and struck his hand as he attempted a clearance, allowing Chard to double their advantage courtesy of Leigh Bailey’s successful spot-kick.

Calne roared back in the second period and reduced the deficit to a single goal just past the hour-mark through Adam Mitchell’s header.

Mitchell came to the fore again with 10 minutes to go as he was brought down by Jason Hutchings, allowing Windsor the opportunity to tie things up from 12 yards, but the Chard goalie made up for his concession of a spot-kick as he kept out the Calne man’s effort and ensured the points remained in Somerset.
