DEVIZES Town chief Darran Walters reckons that his team are probably playing their best football of the season so far, despite the end of the campaign drawing ever closer.

Defender Angus Webster headed home from a Luke Enderby corner to hand the Nursteed Road outfit a 1-0 victory at home to Keynsham Town last weekend – their second triumph in three games.

Devizes may have been beaten 3-0 by title-chasing Ashton & Backwell United last week but Walters has taken plenty of heart from recent performances and hopes his team can continue in the same vein throughout their remaining five assignments.

“We got beat at Ashton & Backwell but there wasn’t much in the game and they scored right at the end of the game to make it 3-0,” said Walters.

“I think our performances recently have been better than they have been all season and hopefully we can keep that going until the end of the season.

“The only problem has been that every time we’ve got a win, so have the teams around us.

“I think we’ve got a chance of not finishing second-from-bottom and that’s what we’ve got to go for – I think we’ll need at least six more points to do that.

"We've got a local derby on Saturday and then Wellington have got to come to us next Tuesday, and they won't fancy travelling all that way."

Devizes' next outing sees them take on local rivals Calne Town. The two teams drew 1-1 in August.
