CALNE Town claimed a first win in almost a month when they saw off Roman Glass St George at home on Saturday.

Neurin Jones’ men were straight out of the blocks at Bremhill View and Stuart Windsor shot over the bar after just 20 seconds.

That spurred the visitors into action and they gave Calne keeper Steve Allison plenty to think about for the remainder of the half.

Calne had a couple more chances themselves, with a Mark Dolman lob and Liam Brown shot both sailing wide.

The Romans’ best chance of the match came just before the break when they went in one-on-one with Allison but the Lilywhites keeper turned the ball around the post.

Calne started the stronger after the break and broke the deadlock after just five minutes. Windsor raced up the left channel before sending in a cross to Brown to open the scoring.

Jake Brand was then denied by the visiting goalkeeper but Calne did not have to wait long for their second goal.

This time Brand turned provider as he chased down a ball that seemed lost to cross into the box, where Windsor was on hand to double the lead.

The home side should have put the game to bed in the 70th minute when Windsor attempted to lob the Romans keeper, who had come off his line, but his effort landed safely on the roof of the net.

There were still a few nervy moments for Calne as a bit of ping-pong in the box following a set-piece caused havoc, but the final attempt finished up in the hands of keeper Allison.

Mark Dolman went close to a late third for Calne when he got the ball in the box but the visiting keeper reacted well to palm the strike over the crossbar.

Calne are on the road this Saturday and travel to Chard Town.
