CORSHAM Town were unable to turn the form book on its head as they were dispatched by title-chasing Chard Town last weekend.

Jeff Roberts’ side slipped to a second successive defeat in the Toolstation League First Division as they were beaten 3-1 in Somerset, falling to 11th in the table in the process as Chard racked up their fourth league victory in a row.

On a heavy surface, the hosts went ahead with 25 minutes on the clock as Scott Holland neatly tucked the ball past keeper Mark Billingsley before Corsham’s George Pawley and Keiron Gleed went close to getting the visitors back into the game before half-time.

But Corsham’s chances of battling back to level terms were killed off as the home side struck twice in the opening five minutes of the second period.

Luke Woodland capitalised on a pair of defensive lapses to hand Chard a comfortable 3-0 lead but Roberts’ men did hand themselves some late consolation as the returning Pawley netted from 20 yards to spoil the hosts’ clean sheet.

Corsham go looking to avoid a potential banana skin when they welcome winless Bishop Sutton to the Southbank next weekend.

Sutton are 11 points adrift at the bottom of the table and have just two points to their name after failing to avoid defeat just twice in 23 attempts.

Corsham ran out comfortable 3-0 winners when they travelled to Lakeview on the opening day of the season.
