A SECOND-half horror show saw Royal Wootton Bassett’s hopes in the Bluefin Sports Challenge Cup come crashing down as they slumped to a 3-2 defeat to Cirencester Town Development.
Paul Braithwaite’s Hellenic League Premier Division side took a 1-0 lead into the interval thanks to a Steve Robertson’s 23rd-minute free-kick.
But Cirencester, who ply their trade in Division One West, struck twice in the opening six minutes of the half to make it 2-1 before the visitors added a third with 15 minutes left on the clock.
Steve Olphert’s late header gave Bassett a glimmer of hope but in the end it was nothing more than scant consolation on a hugely disappointing afternoon for Paul Braithwaite's men.
