DEVIZES Town were unable to hold off a Keynsham Town comeback as they surrendered a two-goal lead to go down 5-2 at the AJN Stadium.

The match was just one of two across the league’s two divisions to beat the wet weekend weather and Devizes seemed more than happy to play as they cruised ahead in Bristol.

Ashley Lock’s strike opened the scoring for Darran Walters’ men in the Division One clash before the visitors saw their advantage doubled by an own goal.

However, Tom Johnson’s goal 10 minutes before the break gave Keynsham hope and Patrick Davison levelled the scores on the hour.

From there it was one-way traffic as Sam Duggan, Ben Harris and Jamie Noble all hit the target as the hosts completed an impressive turnaround.

The defeat extends Devizes’ winless run to a ninth game in all competitions and leaves them third from bottom in the table.

Walters said: “It was very good for an hour or so. We played really well in the first half and went 2-0 up.

“The big thing for Keynsham was getting a goal back just before half-time. If we had got to half-time 2-0 up then I think we would have gone on to win the game.

“But they came out for the second half well and the pressure built and when they got back to 2-2 there only looked like one team who would go on and win it.

“They are a good side, they are fifth in the league and we are third from bottom and there was nothing between us for an hour.

“There are some real positives there and I’m pleased with how we played for that first hour but again it’s another game that we haven’t got anything out of, which we had been looking to do.”

The match was Devizes’ first since Boxing Day and they face another fixture hiatus again soon.

Walters’ side are due to host Wells City on Saturday but then do not have another game scheduled until February 6.

“It was good to play and there weren’t many games on anywhere over the weekend,” said Walters.

“We’ve got Wells next – if that goes ahead – before a two-week break. Having the Keynsham game was good, otherwise it could be a really long break.

“We just have to keep going. We’ve got to try to get something out of the Wells game but we know it will be another tough one.”
