MELKSHAM Town manager Darren Perrin is hoping that his players will be handing him an early wedding present this weekend as he prepares to jet stateside to tie the knot.

The Conigre boss is getting married in Florida on Boxing Day and when he walks down the aisle, Perrin is hoping that his team will have already said ‘I do’ to a place in the semi-finals of the Wiltshire Senior Cup.

Melksham travel to Royal Wootton Bassett Town in the quarter-finals of the county cup on Saturday and Perrin has asked his side for a victory as he signs off for a Christmas period set to contain more than its usual share of festivity.

“I’m getting married in Florida on Boxing Day, so I’ll be missing the Melksham-Bradford game on the same day – I’ve tried asking Sky if they’ll be showing it but I’ve had no luck yet,” said the Melksham chief.

“The Wiltshire Senior Cup is something that I’ve targeted this year so from a purely selfish point of view, I’d love us to win this weekend.

“It’s my last game before the start of next year and it would be great if we could be looking forward to playing in the semi-finals next March.

“I know that Wootton Bassett have one player, in the lad Steve Robertson, that we’ll need to look out for and I’m sure it’ll be a very difficult game.

“They’ve got a new facility and I’m told that the pitch is quite nice, so that’s something to look forward to.”

Melksham, whose game against Street on Monday was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, were beaten 2-0 at home by Bridport on Saturday.

On the stroke of half time, goalkeeper Rob Brown let Warren Byerley's cross slip through his hands into the net before Tom Richardson hit the visitors' second.

Perrin said: "The goalkeeper knows he made a mistake and we never recovered from that but he's saved us plenty of times in the past.

"The pitch was touch and go all morning and the game probably shouldn't have gone ahead - in hindsight, we wish it hadn't done."
