CALNE Town shared the spoils with county rivals Westbury United after an entertaining draw on the road at Meadow Lane last weekend.

Neurin Jones’ men stole a march through Liam Brown’s first half strike but the home side, who are just two places below the Lilywhites in the Toolstation League First Division table, turned the screw in the second period and grabbed an equaliser.

Westbury goalie Charlie Heydon tipped Aaron Ledgister’s free-kick onto the right-hand post before Calne took the lead with 28 minutes on the clock.

A move down the left wing ended with Stuart Windsor delivering and Liam Brown rose highest to head in his first goal of the season for Jones’ side.

The hosts roared straight back and after Dan Moore had flicked the ball over the Calne defence, Joe Cavalla just failed to produce the necessary contact to trouble the visitors’ goal whilst keeper Steve Allison was also forced to deny Josh Ferguson.

Westbury made a double substitution at half time, with Tony McElhone and Jordon Matthews replacing Cavalla and Jordan Cain, and the home side began to bare their teeth, with Mark Young and Ferguson combining to set up Moore but he nodded wide.

McElhone was also denied by the Calne back line but their resistance was broken from the resultant corner as the United substitute latched onto the ball after the initial delivery was cleared and fired home with aplomb to make it 1-1.

The Lilywhites did battle back and Brown set up Tom Boakes to head home but his goal was disallowed for offside and then with 83 minutes on the clock, Calne stopper Allison was forced to pull off the save of the match as he finger-tipped away Moore’s goalbound header.
