PEWSEY Vale doubled their points tally for the season with a 0-0 draw against Laverstock & Ford leaving boss Adi Holcombe feeling positive.

Rock bottom Pewsey actually have a defensive record comparable with many of the sides far further up the Sydenhams League Division One table, but their failure to score goals has cost them wins.

Holcombe’s side created a couple of chances to grab a winner on Tuesday night, but could not find a breakthrough to grab a vital three points.

However that they were able to keep a clean sheet against a side that recently put four past second-placed Amesbury Town greatly pleased the Ball Road boss.

“I’m happy with the result because our last outing was 6-2 against Ringwood Town,” said Holcombe.

“We knew we were in for a tough one after they came in off a good result against Amesbury.

“If you’d asked me before the game if I’d take a point then I would have said yes, especially considering where we are in the league.

“The work ethic and togetherness of the side was really good. They worked hard in and out of possession of the ball. The self-discipline of the team was good as well.

“James Blake had a chance for a winner if he’d taken it a little bit earlier about half-way through the second half.

“We had a good corner in the first half that Dave Coles just failed to get his head on and we had more half-chances.”

For Holcombe, now he is looking to build on the performance next time out by keeping the same side.

“It’s been a nightmare trying to get a settled side this season. We’ve had some good results and put in some good performances,” he added.

“The good thing is I’ve got exactly the same squad on Saturday s well and for the first time this season. That’s the first time season.”
