WITH the top three teams in the Trowbridge Windows-sponsored Trowbridge League Division One missing out on a fixture due to waterlogged pitches, Warminster Town Reserves had the chance to claim a share of pole position with Potterne FC.

Mark Brefitt’s side had to beat second from bottom Castle Combe and thanks to a 5-1 success they now top the table on goal difference.

Carl Clarke and Shaun Sheppard scored to give their team a 2-1 interval lead, with Martin Riddell scoring for Combe.

Sam Clift added a third for Warminster and goals for Matt Dyer and Ashley Kinkead completed the hosts' nap hand.

A week after they crushed Semington Magpies 8-0 in the Wiltshire Junior Cup, Freshford United were paired with the same opponents in the League and like last weekend the match produced eight goals and it was Chris Birleson side who took the spoils thanks to a 5-3 triumph.

Freshford flew out of the blocks and were 2-0 up very early on through goals from Theo Sing who was set up by Jason Povey and Nick Ross who owed his goal to the efforts of Gavin Eyre and once again it looked like being a one-sided contest.

Magpies had other ideas as Dan Barrnet reduced the arrears and a wonder strike from Mike Hill saw parity restored at 2-2.

Freshford regained the lead before half time, Dave Percival making it 3-2 from a Dean Ranger assist. After the break Jason Povey restored the hosts' two-goal cushion after being set up by Tom Rooney and another assist from Rooney led to Percival bagging his second of the afternoon before Paul Gittins nicked a poachers' goal to give Magpies their third of the game.
