UNAVAILABILITIES cost Devizes Town dear at the weekend as they were unable to put some distance between themselves and the bottom two as they lost 4-0 at Wincanton Town in the First Division.

Darran Walters’ side headed to Wincanton Town, who were three points behind Town going into the game in 20th place, missing 10 players and a 4-0 defeat saw the two teams switch places near the foot of the table.

A brace from Matthew Morley, followed by strikes from Taoufik Ben-Salem and Daniel Golden, secured the hosts all three points and Walters saw it as an opportunity missed.

“We went down there with a severely weakened side so we were up against it from the start,” said the Devizes boss.

“It was another poor performance and I don’t think we created a chance on goal in 90 minutes and were well beaten on the day.

“It is unfortunate that we had Wincanton this week, who are struggling like we are, and we didn’t have our strongest side going down to take them on.

“That is no disrespect to the players who did go down there, we called a lot of reserve team players up and they did ok considering a few of them were playing their first Western League game.”

Devizes now face another big game at the foot of the Toolstation League First Division table as they travel to bottom side Bishop Sutton and Walters understands the significance of the game.

“We hope to have those players back for Saturday, which is a game we have got to win,” he added.

“We’ve got a couple of big games coming up.

“Morale is very low at the moment and it is difficult keeping players’ heads up.

“Bishop haven’t won all season and I don’t want their first one to come at our place.”
