DAVE Ferris admits Chippenham Park are being made to pay for the lack of a clinical edge up front after they were beaten away at Wells City.

Park have found the net just 16 times in their 15 league games this season, which goes a long way to explaining why they are scrapping in mid-table.

“We can’t seem to get the ball in the net at the moment - it is very disappointing,” said Ferris.

“If you don’t score goals, you are not going to win games. That is the biggest problem we have got at the moment and unfortunately, it is not something we can be corrected overnight.

“If you are only going to score one goal a game, you have to be perfect at the other end but we are not that either at the moment.”

Park had plenty of chances to come away with all three points from their trip to Wells but were punished for failing to make those count.

Wells edged 1-0 ahead during an even first half before Robbie Burton’s header restored parity after the restart.

Ferris urged his troops to push on for a winner in Somerset, but instead they were caught out at the back as Wells snatched the victory late on.

“I’m bitterly disappointed. We are still giving away sloppy goals and not taking our chances. We have only got ourselves to blame,” added Ferris.

“In the first half, there wasn’t anything in it until we got caught ball-watching and they managed to get their noses in front.

“I felt 1-0 at half-time wasn’t a true reflection. That was the only real clear-cut chance either side had.

“We were quite wasteful but we eventually did get a goal when Dan Smith curled a free-kick into the back post and Robbie Burton managed to head the ball in.

“But we got caught in possession on the break and they managed to score again which turned out to be the winner.”

Park are back in action on Friday night when they make the trip to Ashton & Backwell United.
