NEURIN Jones hailed his fearless Calne Town troops as they triumphed at league leaders Corsham Town on Friday night.

Stuart Windsor headed the Lilywhites in front early on before Kris Beasley doubled the visitors’ tally in the second half.

It was not all plain sailing, though, and Daniel Lardner’s goal late for Corsham created a few nervy moments but Calne clung on to complete the victory.

“We were absolutely superb, I’m really happy for the lads. They played really well and we totally deserved to win,” said Jones, who took over as Calne chief this summer.

“The lads were totally up for it and all played for each other and this is what happens when everything clicks.

“It was a good Corsham team who were top of the league but we did ever so well.

“We scored quite early on and had a few more chances in the second half as well.

“To go in at half-time 1-0 up against the league leaders, the lads were absolutely buzzing and then we went out for the second half and nothing changed.

“At 2-0 we were absolutely cruising. We probably should have scored again but then they got one back with about six minutes to go and when it’s 2-1 late on in a local derby there are always a few nervy moments but we hung on.”

Calne have now taken nine points from the last three league matches and Jones could not be happier with his side’s current form.

He said: “Things are really coming together nicely. We’ve got some good players and there is a lot of quality in the squad but we needed to start finding that consistency and in the last three league games that is what we have done.”

Corsham hosted Cheddar in the Les Phillips Cup last night. On Saturday they are without a fixture, while Calne travel to Keynsham Town.
