KALUM Youngsam got the only goal of the game as Corsham Town continue to set the pace at the top of the Division One table following a 1-0 win at Radstock Town.

The victory keeps Jeff Roberts’ side six points clear at the summit as they prepare for a two-week hiatus from league fixtures.

Corsham travel to Swanage Town & Herston in the FA Vase on Saturday before hosting Purton in the Wiltshire Senior Cup a week later.

Although the performance was not Corsham’s most convincing of the season, Roberts was just happy to get another three points in the bank to keep the pressure on their rivals.

“We have played 14 games, which is more than anyone else, and we have the points on the board,” said Roberts.

“Even if the other teams play a few games in that fortnight we will still be there or thereabouts afterwards.

“All we can do is keep winning and now it’s down to them to chase us.”

Roberts has strengthened his squad ahead of their Vase clash by signing striker George Pawley from beaten weekend opponents Radstock.

Corsham have been hampered by selection issues in recent weeks so Roberts was pleased with the resolve shown by his troops to claim victory in Somerset.

“It was hard fought. We started very slowly and we were a bit shaky at the back,” said Roberts.

“We struggled early on and the first half was quite end-to-end; both teams had a few chances.

“In the second half we settled and I think we were in control. After the goal we could have put it to bed as we had a few more chances.

“We have still got a few injuries and a lot of teenagers played on Saturday. It’s about getting them into men’s football.

“They are gradually getting there and starting to gel and it’s a win on the road with a clean sheet, so I can’t really complain too much about it.”
