FOLLOWING the withdrawal of both Steeple Ashton 1901 and their reserves, along with Hilperton United Reserves and Bradford United from the league and with Aces Reserves being unable to raise a side for their trip to Melksham Town A, it meant that only five of the scheduled Chantry Digital-sponsored Knockout Cup first round ties were played.

From those games, second division AFC Bradley can count themselves unlucky not to be in the next round after suffering a 2-1 extra-time defeat at first division Aces who were second best for the majority of the game.

Bradley had the chance to take the lead on five minutes when they were awarded a penalty, but Dan Mercer had his spot kick saved by keeper James Moody.

Bradley continued to boss the game and they were finally rewarded for their efforts when Will Bayley put them in front on 40 minutes following a great solo run and finish.

Aces left it very late to score their equaliser, but with the game entering injury time Mike Little, who had done nothing in the previous 90 minutes, netted from 25 yards to take the tie to extra time.

Five minutes in LIttle headed in a long throw to give his book Aces their spot in the next round.

After suffering a first round exit in the A&B Cup last weekend at the hands of second division opposition, first division Luxol St Andrews made no mistake at Calne Eagles who they beat 6-0 to take their place in the last 16.

Tom Rooney was almost unplayable in the first 45 minutes and Eagles couldn’t prevent him from scoring the first two goals before Sharon Allen made it 3-0 just before half time.

After the break it was the turn of Zack Manna to torment Eagles defence as he helped himself to a brace, Mark Reynolds added goal number six for Luxol.

Two late goals for Trowbridge Wanderers Reserves at first division Freshford United were nothing more than consolations for Mark Hurkett’s second division outfit. By the time Harry Hamlin and Mark Maguire had scored Freshford were home and hosed as they had already built up a 5-0 lead.

Dave Percival scored the opener for the villagers with just 22 seconds on the clock. Percival then provided the assist that saw Frankie Elliott score his first goal for the club. Jason Povey, with a brilliant individual effort after breaking clear and unleashing a blistering 40-yard drive, made it 3-0 at the break.

Steve Roddy fired home a free kick for 4-0 and a second for Povey after an assist Nick Ross made up the winners' tally.

The all-second division Knockout Cup affair between Luxol St Andrews Reserves and The Stiffs went the way of the former who in the glorious sunshine at Lacock ground out a 5-2 win.

Nat Morgan with two, Matt Woodhead and Terry Askew against his former club put Luxol 4-0 ahead before Lee Ridout and Steve Lewin got Stiffs back in the contest, however their goals counted for nothing as Nat Morgan effort deflected off Chris Giles to give Luxol their fifth of the afternoon.

A strong Warminster Town Reserves team went home with a 7-1 victory over Zeals.

Both teams started well, with chances at either end. Zeals winger Adam Rodriguez found space in the box but his shot struck the woodwork. Matt Dyer then thought he had scored but a fantastic double block on the line by Aaron Carter denied Town the lead.

But then after 20 minutes Warminster upped their game and took control. Matt Dyer scored a fine first-half hat-trick, with Kurt Hammonds and Luke McGulkian also getting in on the act.

Warminster scored early in the second half with Dyer getting his fourth of the game and then Carl Clarke rolled back the years with a drive that made it 5-0.

Zeals continued to fight as they always do and they got a deserved consolation goal through Joao Rodrigues. He had made a great run to the back post, finding space to tuck away Adam Rodriguez's cross.

Holders White Horse FC don’t begin the defence of the trophy they won back in April when they beat Potterne in a thrilling final until the second round as they were one of six teams to receive a bye into the last 16.
