AFTER suffering defeat in their opening two matches of the season Hilperton United returned to winning ways with a surprise, but deserved 3-2 win over Potterne at Beversbrook in the battle on the villages.

Two goals from Tom Blackman gave Hilperton an interval lead. Wayne House reduced the arrears for Potterne but Mitch Spackman reclaimed a two-goal advantage for Hilperton who had to defend heroically at the end as Richard Tandy's debut goal for Potterne gave them a chance of getting something from the game.

After beating their near-neighbours Warminster Town Reserves 3-2 on the opening day of the season, Heytesbury were bidding to complete a quick-fire double over their rivals when the teams met at Weymouth Street, but in an eventful and entertaining contest, Warminster avenged that loss with a 2-0 win.

Heytesbury had the best of the first-half chances with Ashley Caws, Leigh Kennedy and Liam Reid all going close to give them team the lead, but the villagers were indebted to keeper Sam Spratt who, just before half time, produced an excellent save to deny Liam Flowers from giving the host the lead as the score line remained goalless.

Spratt was called into action early in the second half and another great stop denied Matt Dyer, but on 66 minutes Dyer finally got the better of Spratt with an awesome finish that put the hosts 1-0 up.

Matt Dyer was involved in Warminster’s second of the afternoon, after breaking through on goal he was brought down by keeper Spratt who, as last man, was sent off for his actions and the resulting penalty was converted by Steve Seals to wrap up victory for the home team.
