BOTH Zeals FC and Ace Reserves suffered heavy losses on the opening week of the season, so both were looking for a reversal in fortune from their second Division Two outing of the new campaign.

They fought out a thrilling 3-3 draw with Zeals probably the happier of the two teams as they came from 3-1 down to earn a share of the spoils.

Dave Gaskin (Aces) and Shane Rendell (Zeals) traded goals in the first half before a second from Gaskin and a Jason Wilcox effort put Aces 3-1 in front with less than 10 minutes left on the clock. Adam Cudlip and a deflected strike from Simon George saw Zeals fight back to earn a point.

Calne Eagles made it two wins out of two at the start of the season with a hard fought 6-1 win over United FC, who have now lost both of their opening games.

Calne made the best possible start when after only 10 minutes striker Adam Welch headed home a Mickey Taraskevics cross.

It then took only another three minutes for the home side to double their lead when good work from Karl Sharratt released Adam Welch through on goal, who unselfishly squared the ball to his strike partner Mickey Taraskevics to tap in from eight yards.

Despite finding themselves 2-0 down United regained composure and started to slowly to play their way back into the game.

They pulled a goal back midway through the first half when their striker Krzysztof Kopacz lobbed Calne goalkeeper Andy Windsor from an almost impossible angle.

The goal was either a brilliantly executed shot or a lucky cross that accidently found the back of the net. However, with no team mate to aim for in the box it looked like Kopacz’s finish may have been deliberate.

The game remained tight for a long period after this goal and it became increasingly clear that the next goal would be crucial.

Calne looked the most likely to score with their livewire striker Mickey Taraskevics being a constant menace to the United backline. However, United nearly equalised in the second half when Daniel Wosik’s fierce strike was saved at full length by Andy Windsor.

With 30 minutes left another composed finish from Calne striker Adam Welch regained Calne’s two goal cushion and also led to a United pressing the self-destruct bottom.

Calne added three more goals in the last 20 minutes to complete the 6-1 scoreline.

Danny Heap scored his first goal for the club with a well-taken headed goal and Adam Welch added two more goals to his tally, although his fourth goal did appear to already be about to cross the goal line after Taraskevics had rounded the goalkeeper and struck the ball goalwards.

A week on from their resounding 6-1 success over Trowbridge Town Reserves, next up for Luxol St Andrew Reserves was a visit from Trowbridge Wanderers Reserves, who didn’t get off to the best of starts themselves losing to Calne Eagles. However Mark Hurkett’s side were much improved for their trip to Lacock and came away with a 2-1 win.

Goals from Josh Maguire and Sam Walker gave Wanderers a 2-0 lead before Luxol were reduced to 10 men following the dismissal of Kieran Green prior to half time.

After the break Liam Yates pulled a goal back for Luxol but it was little more than a consolation.

Melksham Town A came from 2-0 down to claim a share of the spoils from a 2-2 draw with Trowbridge Town Reserves, with all the goals coming in an entertaining first 45 minutes.

Goals from Simon Parfitt in the 10th and 22nd minutes gave Trowbridge their lead and they got the ball in the net for a third time but it was ruled out for offside.

Nathan Walker scored from distance to reduce the deficit for Melksham on 38 minutes and just before half time Callum Demkiv restored parity for Barry Holloway’s side.

Melksham took control of the game in the second half, but despite wave after wave of attacks, Trowbridge held on thanks to some resolute and committed defending and great goalkeeping from Jordan Tucker.

The Stiffs who missed out on a game last weekend due to the withdrawal of Steeple Ashton 1901 Reserves kicked off their campaign at home to a Westbury Town outfit who claimed a comfortable 6-0 win over Zeals and they hit the goal trail for a second week running.

Westbury may have fallen behind to a Lee Ridout goal but after that it was one-way traffic as they netted 10 unanswered goals to run out easy winners.

Ridout’s goal for the Stiffs was cancelled out by Ryan Earney’s penalty, Joe Bakali-Laughton, Jake Packer and a second from Earney gave Westbury a 4-1 interval lead.

Two more goals from Ryan Earny which included a second penalty took his tally for four, Dean Murden, Phil Hampson, Jack Hayward and Gary Tugwell’s singles made up the winners' 10.
