MELKSHAM Town endured a week of frustration as they were twice edged out by a single goal.

On Saturday, Darren Perrin’s reigning champions lost 1-0 at Bridport as the hosts’ Tom Richardson grabbed the only goal of the game on the hour mark.

Richardson gained possession following a cleared corner and gleefully smashed home the only goal of the game form six yards to see off Melksham.

Then, on Monday evening, Perrin’s men suffered further anguish as they were bested by the same scoreline at the hands of Shepton Mallet.

Will Hailston got on the end of Ben Lacey’s cross and beat Melksham goalie Rob Brown with a 15-yard strike just eight minutes in and the visitors managed to hold on to their lead.

Mallet’s Ben Cleverley tested Brown from a free-kick whilst Gary Higdon dragged a shot wide at the other end.

The hosts’ Mike Perrott also went close whilst visiting goalie Dan Fox made a vital stop to keep out Higdon’s header and as Melksham threw everything at Mallet in the closing stages, they couldn’t force an equaliser.
