ROYAL Wootton Bassett Town made it through to FA Vase second round qualifying after triumphing over Hellenic League Premier Division rivals Binfield in a seven-goal thriller.

A 1-1 draw at the Gerrard Buxton Sports Ground on Saturday, in which Steve Robertson netted for Bassett and Sam Packer was sent off for two bookings, forced a first round qualifying replay in Berkshire on Monday night.

Harvey Scholes’ superb curling effort from range put Paul Braithwaite’s men a goal to the good before the break and the midfielder then doubled his and his team’s tally for the evening as he netted after weaving his way past four opponents.

But Binfield hit back as Jemel Johnson cracked a 25-yard strike in off the post and then substitute Brad Brown levelled the tie With eight minutes to go, Dan Bailey headed in to restore the visitors’ lead but the drama was far from over, with Liam Ferdinand levelling matters once again.

But from a last-gasp corner, Nathan Hawkins rose to head home the winner.
