TWO goals from Kris Beasley weren’t enough to hand Calne Town their first victory of the season last weekend.

Beasley headed home a fine cross from Nathan Phillimore to hand his team the lead against Ashton & Backwell United just before the 20-minute mark.

He also found the net a second time before the break to restore the Lilywhites’ lead after Cordell Young had levelled up the scores, beating Calne keeper Steve Allison at his near post.

But six minutes into the second period, the visitors’ Nathan Rendell headed home a cross from the left flank to make it 2-2.

Liam Brown headed onto the top of the net as the Lilywhites went searching for a way back in front and their chances were increased Ashton were reduced to ten men when keeper Lewis Coombes handled outside the area as he challenged Brown.

But Neurin Jones’ men couldn’t find a third goal as the visitors’ defence held firm to hang on to a share of the spoils.

Calne are due to host county rivals Westbury United at Bremhill View on Wednesday night.
