DAN Bailey’s hat-trick helped Wootton Bassett Town maintain their superb end to the season with a thumping victory over Holyport last weekend.

Bassett’s 4-1 victory at the Corinium Stadium stretches their unbeaten run to nine matches, with Paul Braithwaite’s men set to attempt to reach double figures when they host title-favourites Flackwell Heath on Wednesday, April 22.

After withstanding an early onslaught where Holyport hit the bar, drew three saves from goalkeeper Luke Kucyznski, and had an effort cleared off the line by Jack Ellis, the home side took the lead when striker Bailey hooked home a shot with his back to goal.

Then, shortly after the break, Bassett quickly killed off the game with the wind behind their backs.

Bailey netted his second of the afternoon with a fine strike from the edge of the box before strike partner Steve Robertson slotted home after rounding the Holyport keeper.

Bailey then completed his hat-trick when he finished off a flowing move involving Robertson and returning skipper Steve Yeardley.

Steve Nott-Macaire cracked home a volley on the half-turn to grab a consolation goal for the Berkshire visitors but it did little to curtail a third win in four home games for Braithwaite’s men.
