Harsh lesson for College

Wiltshire League Premier Division

There was a disappointing result for New College, who needed a victory to put them on equal points with leaders Corsham, at home to fourth-from-bottom Bradford they were surprisingly beaten by the only goal of the game.

College had much the better of the first half and should have gone in at the break with a healthy lead. However they paid for their missed chance when Steve Bryant struck for the visitors 15 minutes from time to snatch victory.

Wroughton were outplayed at Calne for long periods but salvaged a 1-1 draw with a second-half strike from Lee Curtis.

Calne missed several good chances before taking the lead five minutes before the break when Jamie Davies converted a good cross from Marc Dolman.

They continued in the driving seat after the break but some good defending and a couple of saves from the Wroughton keeper stopped them from adding to their tally.

Purton Reserves travelled to Trowbridge and found the home side in sparkling form and were beaten 6-0.

Blueprint Chiseldon had a welcome change of luck at Pewsey Vale, running out 2-1 winners much to the delight of their manager Chokri Kartit who said: "Last week I criticised the match officials over a disputed goal but I thought this week's trio were excellent and not just because we won the game."

After a blank first half, James Blake gave the home side the lead, cancelled out by a good strike from Max Lesley.

Dave Griffin then scored the winner from the spot to give the Swindon side their first victory for several weeks.

A first-half goal from Liam Bailey gave Malmesbury Vics a 1-0 victory at Shrewton and Marlborough Town picked up a point in a 0-0 draw at Melksham.

Shock result in Division One was Stratton Rovers' 2-1 away victory over title contenders AFC Castrol.

The home side took the lead through Stuart Phillips with Ashley Channing equalising soon after. Craig Hogg was then brought down in the box and Colin Yates put Rovers in front from the spot.

It was the first victory after three attempts for Mike Hartley, who recently took over as manager of Stratton.

A hat-trick from Nathan Shepherd and goals from Steve Hewlett and stalwart Ricky Oliver gave Abbey Rodbourne enjoyed a 6-1 win over Aldbourne - Michael Lawson (2), Laurie Keith, Phil Thomas and an own goal enabled Minety to gain a 5-0 victory over Marlborough Town Reserves and AFC Stratton beat Blunsdon 5-1, thanks to two goals from Lee Smith and one each from Phil Bell, Ian Fawkes and Scott Rouse.

Stratton Juniors' bid to be runners-up in Division Two received a boost when they defeated nearest rivals Wroughton Reserves 3-2 with goals from Simon Dyminski, Gareth Davies and Richard Bruce, with Michael McCluskey and Ian Lennard on target for Wroughton.

Leaders Lower Stratton, who needed just two points for the title, had their game at Bromham called off so will have put the champagne on ice.

Westside Reserves and CHQ United shared six goals in an entertaining game Bryn Keetch netting a hat-trick for the home side and Chip Lewis, Matt Townsend and Manny Bandana for CHQ.
