Full time Sunday March 25th

Match report from Sincil Bank, Lincoln

Coca Cola League Two

Fulltime Lincoln City 2 Swindon Town 3

In a game that paired fourth placed Lincoln with fifth placed Swindon, Town manager Paul Sturrock gave a debut to Barry Corr and partnered him up front with Lukas Jutkiewicz. That dropped Christian Roberts and Lee Peacock to midfield alongside Michael Pook and Sofienne Zaaboub for the away side.

It took until seven minutes into the match before the home side created the first chance when Mendes stuck wide of the far post. Two minutes later, Marriott dropped a Christian Roberts free kick against his own post, but with Andy Nicholas unable to capitalise on the loose ball, the mistake went unpunished.

But the game was just 12 minutes old when Stallard turned home from eight yards. Good work down the Lincoln right had left Town defender Nicholas floundering and Mendes' cross was clinically finished by Stallard to give the home team the lead.

Town struck back almost immediately when a defensive mistake gave Jutkiewicz the chance to turn his defender. His cross-cum-shot found Roberts who tucked the ball away to level the scores.

City though continued to look dangerous down the right hand side. Mendes again exploited some ponderous work in Town's defence, but this time Stallard was unable to convert from within the six-yard box. Then Stallard was once more the danger man when he struck straight at Town keeper Phil Smith after 24 minutes, but slowly Swindon were beginning to take some control of the match.

With 12 minutes of the first half remaining, Roberts ran down the right hand side, but his ball into the box was half cleared. Town defender Jack Smith followed up with an attempt at goal, but as his shot looked to be going wide, debutant Barry Corr turned the ball home to claim his first League goal and give Town the lead.

Halftime: Lincoln City 1 Swindon Town 2

City started the second half in the manner in which they had started the first, pushing Swindon back into their own half, but three minutes into the second period, a long ball from Roberts found Corr on the edge of the home side's six-yard box. Strapped for space, Corr turned his marker and found the running Peacock who finished well to give Town a two-goal cushion.

Amoo then stuck just over the bar for City, then Corr fired well over for Town from a big Phil Smith kick.

With just under 20 minutes to go, Lee Peacock almost extended Swindon's lead when his 25 yard free kick cannoned off the cross bar as Town used the wind behind them to good advantage, but with a quarter of an hour left Lincoln upped the pace.

Holmes ran down the left and played the ball into the box. Stallard's connection hit defender Jack Smith, but the ball rebounded kindly for the striker to lift the ball over the committed Phil Smith to reduce Swindon's lead and give Stallard his second of the game.

Forrester then hit a shot straight at Smith as City scented an equaliser, before Frecklington fired a laid-off free kick just wide of the right hand post.

There were five minutes of added time for Town supporters to endure, but despite Frecklington again shooting high over the bar after a run from deep, Swindon held on for an important win against their promotion rivals.

The result lifted Town up to third and dropped the Imps back to fifth place in League Two.
