WG Parr Trophy semi-final
First Division FC Colerne will face Pig & Whistle United in the final of the Westernsport Trophies-sponsored WG Parr Trophy after the second division side came from two goals down to win 3-2 and end fourth division Little George FC's dreams of cup success and deny them a third giant killing act of the season.
Little George who had already put out last terms beaten finalists Wheatsheaf FC and the much fancied division two leaders British Lion OC were unable to repeat their earlier antics against their Melksham based opponents who were surprised when a number of players failed to turn up at Awdrey Avenue for their biggest game in a number of years.
United's manager Wesley Frith was hoping that he could guide his team from the sidelines but he found himself playing a bigger part in the game than he had expected when he had to pull on the goal keepers jersey following the no show of his first choice shot stopper. After an open first 45 minutes that failed to produce any goals the game came to life in the second half as Nat Auckland started to run the show for the Little George who took the lead through Ben Husband and when Husband doubled the score the George looked to be on course for the final.
They had the chance to add a third via Auckland which would have killed United off and ended the contest but the miss allowed United back into the game and the introduction of Adam young with 20 minutes remaining turned the game in United's favour and United's captain Aaron Richardson led from the front as his excellent finish reduced the arrears, and with time running Dave Jenkins latched onto an Adam Young throw to tie the score at 2-2 and just as it was looking as if the match would go to extra time Richardson crashed home a delightful 20 yard free kick in the 88th minute to seal United's 3-2 success.
