MEL Gingell has been sacked as manager of Wiltshire under 18s following a crushing defeat against Hampshire a week ago.

Gingell, who guided the Moonrakers to their third successive South West Cup final this season, was dismissed at a Wiltshire FA hearing on Tuesday.

The former Melksham Town chief's last match in charge was the 4-1 defeat against title rivals Hampshire in Salisbury last Saturday.

Wilts FA secretary Mike Benson told the Wiltshire Times: "I can confirm that Mel Gingell was sacked following the game against Hampshire last Saturday week.

"We will be putting somebody in place for the two remaining games this season, and will be advertising the job full-time in the summer."

Meanwhile, Wiltshire's final South West Counties Group B match against Dorset tomorrow has been postponed because the pitch is unplayable.

The team still have an outside chance of winning the division, but must beat Dorset by eight goals when the match is rearranged.
