North Star A rediscover form

NORTH Star A bounced back to form after their surprise 5-4 loss against Christian Malford last weekend as the Calne-based side defeated in-form Kingfisher 5-1 to move into second spot.

Michael Bell put Kingfisher ahead when he put through his own goal, but he made amends for his error when his shot took a deflection to tie the scores before the break.

After the interval the game belonged to the Star as they took the lead through Mark Dolman, who added another to make it 3-0. A blistering 25 yard strike from Tommy Ludford put the game beyond the Kingfisher but there was still time left for Victor Long to knock home a short range shot one to wrap up their five star win with his first goal of the season.

FC Colerne edged out a plucky young Atworth United side in a nine-goal feast at Colerne. Atworth fielded a team with an average age of only 20 and took the lead after 25 minutes when Ian Jeffery's corner was headed in by Lawrence Brill.

Colerne equalised soon after through Ross Hall but the visitors took the lead just before the break when Sean Fordham latched onto a neat through ball from Jack Adcock to beat the goalkeeper with ease.

Playing down the slope and with the wind in their favour in the second half Colerne's strikers found spaces in the Atworth defence and notched three quick goals.

Jamie Bowler squared things up when he cut through Atworth's defence to finish well and another good finish from Bowler gave the hosts a 3-2 advantage. Jake Jefferies hit a fourth for Colerne after being set up by Jason Smith.

At this stage Atworth's thoughts turned to their earlier 11-1 drubbing at the hands of the same opposition earlier in the season but as evidence of the massive improvement they came back into the game and Ian Jeffery curled in a 25 yard free kick to put the game back into the melting pot. Atworth's hopes were dashed when Jake Jefferies scored a fifth for the home side after good work from Jason Smith.

Sean Fordham latched onto a loose ball in the box to smash home his second goal and Atworth's fourth to leave Colerne to negotiate a tense last few minutes which they did to earn an eighth success of the season.

Potterne's 7-3 victory over Foresters Arms moved them back up the table to third place.

With only 30 seconds gone it was Foresters who took the lead after a quick break resulted in Steve Pegler scoring.

Steve Pegler fired home from the penalty spot to make it 2-0 before Potterne came to life. Doug Dixon halved the deficit and a Johnny Emm penalty drew the villagers level. Foresters regained the lead before the break when Kane Udeh scored his third goal of the season.

Johnny Emm equalised when he completed his hat-trick and Foresters then let their heads drop and it was the visitors who went on to seal a comfortable win thanks to further goals from Mark Webb, Lee Saunders and the unfortunate Richard Cotter who could only divert a Ben House shot past his own goalkeeper.

Hullavington were hoping to build on last weekend's 5-0 victory over Foresters Arms, which saw them end an 11 match winless run, but the weather thwarted their chance of taking back to back wins after they had to call off their game with Coyote FC.

Semington Rovers missed out on the chance of increasing their lead at the top when they were left without a game.

Rovers were scheduled to play third placed Christian Malford at Malford's Upper Seagry pitch and were desperate to avenge the 1-0 defeat they suffered in the reverse contest on the opening day of the season.

Malford tried in vain to get the game played, but in the end they were beaten by the elements and were forced to postpone the game.

Rovers retain pole position as North Bradley, who occupy second spot, were forced to postpone their match with Chippenham Sports and Social Club after their pitch was ripped apart by Bradley's Saturday side.
