PEWSEY Vale were unable to halt Team Solent’s relentless march towards the Sydenhams League Division One title as they were decimated on the south coast last weekend.
Nick Maggs’ men hadn’t tasted victory in their last four outings and were carved asunder by the league leaders, slipping to their biggest defeat of the season so far.
Solent’s students handed out a harsh lesson of their own as they netted six times without reply at the Test Park Sports Ground, with six different goalscorers getting in on the act.
Jesse Lassen, Lodi Nakanda, Jermal Frederick, Matthew Sheedy, Rafa da Costa and substitute Chris Wateridge all got themselves on the scoresheet to move the Southampton-based outfit ten points clear at the top of the table and heap misery on the visitors.
Saturday’s crushing defeat leaves Maggs’ men tenth in the Division One standings, two points behind Laverstock & Ford, who have a game in hand, and eight behind Fleet Spurs.
Vale go looking to bring their five-match winless run to an end and close the gap on Laverstock when when they welcome the Salisbury side to Ball Road next weekend.
The shares were spoiled when the two teams played out a 2-2 stalemate on March 7, with Tom Ritchie and Warren Macdonald on target as Pewsey came back from two goals down to snatch a point with two second half strikes.
But Vale were thrashed 4-0 when they travelled to Chuch Road in the opening round of the Wiltshire Senior Cup in October.
