THERE may have only been one fixture in the Division One on Saturday afternoon, but the match at Culver Close which featured Bradford United, who started the day in pole position and defending champions Freshford United who were in second spot and three points behind Anthony Ottavanio’s side, was billed as a possible title decider.

Freshford took a giant leap to reclaiming the title thanks to a nail biting 3-2 triumph.

Bradford took the lead from a very dubious penalty, but Theo Sing made no mistake from 12 yards as he put his team one up.

Freshford levelled matters through Nick Ross who made it one apiece following an assist from Steve Roddy. Freshford went 2-1 up, Roddy giving them the lead after being set up by Dave Percival.

Freshford were pegged back when a great team move that saw the ball passed between Sing, Ryan Mortimer and Phil Little before the latter fed it to Dan Jones who rolled it into the net from close range to make it two each before half time.

After the break Freshford should have reclaimed the lead when they were awarded a penalty, but Steve Roddy saw his spot kick saved by keeper Will Carson who was yards off his line when he denied Roddy, but despite protests from Freshford the penalty was not retaken.

Bradford, who had Matt Stevens sent off for using foul and abusive language to the referee after he awarded the penalty, had to play out the remainder of the match with 10 men and they paid the price when Craig Brown made the most of the numerical advantage to score what may yet to be the most important goal of the season for Birleson’s title chasing Freshford side.

For Bradford manager Ottavanio things went from bad to worse as he was also shown a red card for using abusive language towards the match referee.
