CALNE Town are hoping to open their doors to a hearty crowd when they host a Friday night derby at Bremhill View

The Lilywhites have opted to shift their clash with near neighbours Corsham Town to this Friday (kick-off 7.45pm) in a bid to push more fans through the gate as they kick off the weekend with a local showdown.

“Keynsham did it a few weeks ago and I they got a few more fans in because of it so we thought it would be a good idea too,” said Calne manager Simon Gardner.

“Hopefully we can get quite a few fans in because it’s a Friday night and that means that we might get a few of the players from others clubs too.

“We’re looking forward to it. I know that a few of the players from both sides are off to Cheltenham for the Gold Cup but we’ll still have a good side out.”

On Saturday, Gardner’s men rode their luck to pick up a point at Radstock Town.

The Somerset hosts were on the front foot throughout and when Steve Allison charged out of his goal, he brought down a Radstock forward and conceded a penalty.

But the Calne keeper redeemed himself by saving the spot-kick and launching the ball upfield for Stuart Windsor to loop a header into the net to give the visitors the lead.

Despite falling a goal behind against the run of play, Radstock continued to turn the screw and the breakthrough came when Neurin Jones fouled an opponent following a scramble in the away area and the home side converted their second penalty of the afternoon.

Boss Gardner said: “I was definitely the happier manager after the game. Radstock were a well-drilled and physical side, and I’d definitely say that they had the better of the game.

“Marcus Lovesey almost scored an own goal at the end, which would have been really harsh on us after our 7-0 mauling against Barnstaple the week before. I was happy with the point.”
