PEWSEY Vale chief Nick Maggs was delighted with the character shown by his team as they rescued a point at Laverstock & Ford last weekend.

In their first game for a calendar month, Maggs’ men made the trip south to Salisbury and despite Kias Bonner-Shea hitting the bar in the first period, they fell two goals behind as the home side’s Kane O’Keefe and Luke Lewis netted after the break.

But Tom Ritchie hauled Vale back into the game as he hit the target from Bonner-Shea’s delivery before full-back Warren Macdonald fired home a late equaliser from the edge of the Laverstock area.

“It was nice to be playing again after not having a game for four weeks but I’m sorry that I sound like a broken record but it was the same old story with us once again,” said Maggs.

“We missed our chances in the first half and then found ourselves 2-0 down. But I was really happy with the character that we showed to get back into the game.

“We equalised and saw the game out in the last five minutes. It does feel like a win when that happens.

“But it was bittersweet. We didn’t play particularly well but we’re really happy to come back and get the point.

“I also had six teenagers in the team and I was really happy with the older players that took responsibility.”

Pewsey make the trip to second-placed Tadley Calleva this weekend and welcome back Adam Field and Luke Enderby but boss Maggs admits that he does have concerns over what side he’ll be able to field when Vale go to table-toppers Team Solent on March 21.

Maggs said: “We should have a good side for this weekend but I am worried about when we play Team Solent.

“We’re going to be absolutely decimated because of a wedding that some of the players are going to and I have no idea what kind of team we’ll have for that one.”
