TREVOR Rawlings took heart from his side’s spirited display at Barnstaple Town last weekend, particularly after the game was delayed for an hour following an injury to youngster Charlie Maddison.

Winger Maddison, who is dual-registered with Larkhall Athletic, left Mill Road in an ambulance after being scythed down early in the match and when play finally resumed, Rawlings’ men were beaten 3-0 by their free-scoring hosts.

But the Corsham manager says that the scoreline didn’t tell the full story.

“It was a bad tackle on Charlie from behind and we think it was the way he landed; he was in a lot of agony and we thought he’d broken his leg or his ankle,” said Rawlings.

“But it looks as though he’s done his (ankle) ligaments.

“The game was held up for an hour and they scored a fluke goal straight from kick-off but we were camped in their half in the first half after that and I’m sure they’d say that they were lucky not to be 3-1 down at half-time.

“Sam Ockwell has had the ball smacked at him from two yards, with his hand behind his back, and they’ve been given a penalty.

“I think most teams from our area suddenly get ‘Barnstaple-itis’ when we have to go there. You have loads of players not available, so we went there with five under 18s and I was really happy with them.”
