HILPERTON United’s first outing in the CDP Supply–sponsored, Centenary Remembrance Cup saw them host early table toppers Castle Combe, who went into their game at Whaddon Lane with maximum points from their two matches.

They came out of it with third straight win and nine points on the board courtesy of a 2-1 success.

First-half goals from Sam Myles and Steve Coleman, who also had a penalty saved by Hilperton keeper Kieran Ramsey, before he made it 2-0 to put Combe in the driving seat at the break.

Hilperton responded well in the second period and thought they had reduced the arrears only for Bradley King-Taylor to have his effort ruled out. Sean O’Brien pulled a goal back for the hosts but it wasn’t enough as Combe held out to claim the narrowest of victories.

Ben Howe’s North Bradley made it two wins out of two in the competition as they brushed aside the challenge of Trowbridge Town Reserves for whom it was their first game in the competition.

Bradley, who are favourites to lift the cup, followed up a 4-0 success over Warminster Reserves last weekend with a 13-1 success in a match that was moved from Woodmarsh to Bradley.

Bradley had the game won in the opening 45 minutes, Reuben Spong with four and Dean Ranger’s hat-trick doing the damage.

The second period saw Bradley bring on Scott Askew who fired home the third treble of the afternoon, Reuben Spong bagged a fifth of the game and Dean Ranger a fourth before Pete Spong rounded things off for Bradley with their 13th of the game. Marc Harewood replied for Trowbridge.

The other scheduled match between Warminster Town Reserves and Bradford United was lost due to a waterlogged pitch at Weymouth Street. For Bradford it was their third non-start of the competition as they look to get their campaign underway.
