YOUNG footballers at St Mary’s Primary School in Chippenham have booked a dream trip to visit Premier League leaders Chelsea after finishing top of the class at the Going For Goals tournament held at Springfield Leisure Centre in Corsham last week.

Corsham Primary School Pound Pill, St Patrick’s and Corsham Primary School Broadwood were also in action at the event, with St Mary’s A team winning all of their matches.

They beat Broadwood 3-1, were 3-0 winners over both Pound Pill and St Patrick’s, and also recorded a 4-0 win over St Mary’s B.

The format of the day saw the players put through their paces in the morning in a training session led by Chelsea staff before the tournament took place in the afternoon.

St Mary’s won the same tournament last year and as a result of their latest success they will now head to Chelsea’s training ground in Cobham next month for another tournament.

There were plenty more prizes for St Mary’s as A team goalkeeper Charlie won the golden glove award for the most sheets, while strikers Freddie and Charlie scored four goals apiece to share the golden boot.

St Mary’s B team were awarded the Fair Play Trophy.

St Mary’s teacher David Coath said: “The children of all teams participating played with fantastic spirit.

“And it was brilliant to see all teams were mixed gender even though it was not compulsory.”
