DAVE Ferris says there is no way Chippenham Park should have let two points slip from their grasp in a 3-3 draw at home to Cheddar.

Striker Mark Robinson netted a superb hat-trick at Hardenhuish Park to put the home side in cruise control early in the second half.

And when Cheddar then saw keeper Sean Burroughs limp off injured and Callum Ham sent off there seemed to be only one winner.

However, Park were inexcusably unable to see the game out from that position as Cheddar struck twice in the final 15 minutes to earn a share of the spoils.

Bemused Park boss Ferris said: “I should be talking about and oozing praise on Mark’s hat-trick but sadly things didn’t work out that way.

“He’s been a little bit quiet in the last few games but on Saturday it was a very good performance from him.

“It was a game we should have wrapped up. We missed a few chances but three goals should have been more than enough.

“When we scored the third goal we should have gone on to win the game comfortably. We should never have been in a position to concede the goals we did.

“We absolutely deserved to be 3-1 up and at that point you’re thinking ‘great, let’s get in the bar and have a beer’ but then disaster struck.

“I don’t think we took our foot off the pedal, the momentum of the game just seemed to change.

“However, even in the last 20 minutes when our level had dropped off we still had about four more chances to put the game to bed.

“We don’t have any excuses and fair play to Cheddar as they kept working really, really hard.

“They will probably feel like they deserved to finish with something with the way they played towards the end.”
