CALNE Town recovered from a shocking start to earn a point against visiting Chard Town.

Sam Clarke put Chard ahead inside four minutes but the home side swiftly recovered with two goals in quick succession.

David Nunes-Brigues brought them level with a close-range finish before Stuart Windsor fired Calne ahead at the break.

Calne struggled to recapture that form in the second period, however, and Sam Clarke’s strike 15 minutes from time earned Chard a deserved equaliser.

Boss Simon Gardner was unable to attend the game and left assistant Rob Fry is charge but said: “By all accounts a draw was probably the fair result.

“After the early goal it was all us for the rest of the first half and we scored two goals.

“We could have had a penalty as well. There was a handball but the referee missed it.

“In the second half it was backs to the wall and we had to absorb a lot of pressure.

“I think we could have nicked it towards the end which maybe would have been a bit undeserved.”

Calne face a tough trip to high-flying Welton Rovers on Saturday.
