TREVOR Rawlings admitted Saturday was a day to forget after Corsham Town were handed a heavy home defeat by Hengrove Athletic.

The hosts were 2-0 in arrears at the break and their cause was not helped by the dismissal of Ryan Tyrell early in the second half.

And Hengrove took full advantage of the extra man to add two more goals without reply before the final whistle.

“We don’t have many days like that and we were very poor. We were second best all over the park,” said Rawlings.

“We were 2-0 down quite quickly but then we played quite well in the final 15 minutes of the first half and created quite a few chances, enough to get back to 2-2.

“Ryan then got sent off very early in the second half and from there it was always going to be difficult.

“I actually thought we played OK with 10 men, better than we did with 11 so perhaps we could have started with 10.

“I can’t really explain the result. We’ve only had one game in the last few weeks and training has been difficult with the weather but you expect the lads to do some stuff themselves.

“It didn’t seem like they had and they just looked sluggish.

“We will put it down to a bad day at the office and everyone needs to be better next time.”

Corsham will look to bounce back when they travel to Chard on Saturday.
