BRADFORD United Reserves picked up a massive three points in their fight to beat the drop from Division Two, a 2-1 victory over fellow relegation battlers Calne Eagles.

Two early goals from the Reserves’ top scorers Jack Bristow and Tim Bruton were enough to earn their team victory against a battling Eagles side.

In a windswept match Bradford made an emphatic start when, after just four minutes, Jack Bristow finished from close range, after a good run and cross from Tim Bruton.

Bruton’s quality on the ball was once again on show when he skilfully doubled his side's lead after only 10 minutes. The Bradford striker’s controlled shot from outside the box would have normally caused very few problems, but, with the wind at his back, his strike seemed to gather pace and flew into the top corner, leaving goalkeeper with Andy Windsor no chance.

With 20 minutes left, Calne got the goal their play deserved when a long ball forward from Gary Wootten was mis-controlled by Bradford’s right-back and Matt Law raced through on goal to score his first goal for the club.

Holt FC suffered a shock 4-1 defeat against Trowbridge Wanderers Reserves.

Ben Hogg’s side, who had won all their previous 15 matches this term, switched the game to Christie Miller and probably wished they hadn’t as Matt Rusling’s side upset the formbook to claim a deserved win after falling a goal behind.

With Natty Mills still celebrating his opener for Holt, Wanderers went straight up the other end and got themselves back on level terms, Mike Hunt playing in Will Bayley who made it one apiece.

Wanderers then led thanks to a brilliant second from Bayley, Mike Ritson heading onto the striker who drilled into the top corner for 2-1.

Wanderers keeper Tom Bartlett made two brilliant saves to preserve his team's advantage and woodwork came to their aid on four occasions before Hunt set Bayley up for his third of the afternoon to give them a 3-1 half time lead.

Wanderers killed off any hopes of a Holt comeback when Ferris Lamrabet fired home from 20 yards after a neat lay-off from Mike Ritson to complete what was an unexpected but deserved win for Russling’s side against the title favourites.

With their pitch at Trowbridge Cricket Club out of action due to a waterlogged pitch, Trowbridge Rangers were more than happy to switch their game to the home of opponents Heytesbury, who themselves were happy for a return to action following a three-week lay off.

A 1-0 victory for Heytesbury kept them in the promotion race, with the only goal coming in the 28th minute after Luke Love broke from inside his own half before sliding the ball to Bradley Edwards, whose cross into the area was turned into his own net by the unfortunate Mark Smith.

Heytesbury had the chance to make it 2-0 in the 83rd minute after they were awarded a penalty following a foul on Declan Griffiths.

Leigh Kennedy stepped up to take the spot kick but his effort was brilliantly saved by keeper Ben Forester. Kennedy knew it wasn’t his day when he missed another opportunity for 2-0 a few minutes from time.

Worton & Cheverell remain in a four-way relegation dogfight after their latest defeat which saw them lose 6-0 away at promotion chasing White Horse FC, who remain in fifth place in the standings.

Paul Beavers put White Horse in front, Stuart Barber made it 2-0 and shortly before half-time a quick-fire double from a combined distance of five yards from Sam Gooding, who was making a rare appearance for the side in the absence of his brother Joe, knocked the stuffing out of Worton.

Second-half substitutes Steve Munday and Dale Rowland made up the winners' half dozen.
