OPPOSITE numbers Dave Ferris and Trevor Rawlings agreed that a draw was just about a fair result as Chippenham Park and Corsham Town played out a stalemate on Boxing Day.

Corsham carved out a 2-0 lead in the first half thanks to Levi Cox’s penalty and Ant Brown’s header but hosts Park roared back in the second period to level things up, with Will Giles reducing the deficit before Aaron Ledgister curled in a free-kick against his former side.

Park manager Ferris thought that his team weren’t at the races in the first 45 minutes but thought that his team could have ended the afternoon with even more than a point.

“We were poor in the first half at Wells (on December 20) and we were poor against Corsham but in the second half, it was a completely different kettle of fish and Corsham weren’t in it,” said the Hardenhuish Park boss.

“We played some outstanding football in difficult conditions and Will Giles managed to get himself on the end of a cross before Aaron Ledgister got his customary free-kick goal.

“A draw probably was a fair result but we had chances to win it and were probably even a little bit disappointed that we didn’t get all three points.

“But 2-2 after being 2-0 down; we’ve got to be happy with that.”

Corsham chief Rawlings thought that his team paid the price for not capitalising on more of their first half chances.

“We came in 2-0 up but we were disappointed with that because we had a lot of opportunities and we didn’t take them – we could have been three or four up,” said Rawlings.

“It was a game of two halves and Chippenham were on top in the second half. At the end of it, I think that a draw was a fair result in the end.

“We were happy with a point at Barnstaple in our last game and a point in a local derby, with both sides having to deal with horrendous conditions, isn’t too bad at all.

“We had a lot of players missing again and hopefully we can get a few of them back for this Saturday.”

Both teams kick off the new year with further derby clashes, with Park travelling to in-form Calne Town and Corsham hosting Westbury.
