NICK Maggs was glad to set the record straight as Pewsey Vale eased to victory on their trip to Hythe & Dibden.

Maggs’ men were beaten 1-0 at home by the same opposition at the end of November but put in a much better performance in Hampshire.

After a goalless first half, Pewsey were in the ascendancy after the restart but had to wait until the 79th minute to break the deadlock when Craig Simmons found the net.

Robbie Maggs then put the icing on the cake in injury time, scoring a fine solo goal.

“We had a decimated side but if you stay strong at the back and don’t concede it always gives you a chance,” said boss Maggs, whose side now host local rivals Amesbury Town on Saturday.

“We had people throwing their bodies on the line and our keeper didn’t really have a save to make. “We had two youngsters playing centre midfield and they didn’t shirk anything.

“I’m glad we went there and did a job on them because of the game a few weeks ago.”
