CALNE Town manager Simon Gardner heaped praise on strike duo Darrin Moss and Stuart Windsor as they helped the Lilywhites serve up an early Christmas cracker last weekend.

Gardner hailed a watershed moment in his side’s season as Calne notched up their biggest victory of the campaign so far as by thrashing Oldland Abbotonians 4-0 at Bremhill View.

Windsor’s long-range effort set the tone early on before Moss took the game to Oldland and bagged himself a hat-trick, leaving his manager beaming.

“It wasn’t just a big result in the fact that we scored a few goals and kept a clean sheet but also in the fact that it could be a bit of a turning point for us,” said Gardner.

“We were missing a few of our ‘big’ players and it’s going to be hard to decide if they’re going to come straight back into the team after that performance.

“The front two have to take the plaudits. Stu Windsor scored an absolute screamer to get us started like a house on fire.

“Things haven’t always gone well for Darrin Moss but he’s kept working hard and the young lad’s scored a good hat-trick.

“His first one was a good finish after a ball from Aaron Hopkins and the second one was a bit unorthodox - going in off his thigh – but the third was a brilliant goal where he spotted the keeper off his line and looped it into the top corner like (Matt) Le Tissier.

“We had a few moments of pressure to deal with too but the defence did their job really well too.”

Jake Jefferies, Neurin Jones, Alex Lewis and Glenn Armstrong could all return for next weekend’s clash with Wincanton Town.
