IT WAS a disastrous day for Trowbridge League sides in the Wiltshire Junior Cup, with only Freshford United making it through to the last four.

Freshford defeated Salisbury league outfit Stockton & Codford, who were last term's beaten finalists.

Gavin Eyre may not have got his name on the scoresheet in Freshford’s 4-1 success but his three assists to set up goals for Tom Rooney, Steve Roddy and Nick Ross played a part in the win.

A brilliant individual goal from Roddy, to give him his second of the tie, sealed the villagers the place in the last four.

Goals from James Ayton, who scored with a delightful overhead effort, and Dale Rowland, who scored a second-half penalty, were just consolations for White Horse FC as their cup hopes were ended by Salisbury Premier division leaders Alderbury who won 4-2.

Heytesbury had the hardest draw of all Trowbridge League sides and they got to within a minute of causing a huge shock at home to Swindon League pole sitters Avtar Construction who eventually won 6-2 after extra-time.

An own goal put Heytesbury ahead. Avtar leveled early in the second half and only a string of fine saves from Heytesbury keeper Sam Spratt kept his team in the tie.

Leigh Kennedy’s penalty eight minutes from time looked to have won it for the villagers but in the last minute Avtar struck to take the game to extra time where two goals in each half earned them their 6-2 succes.

Ben Howe’s hopes of lifting the Junior Cup for North Bradley has been ended for another season after his team suffered a 4-3 defeat at home to Salisbury League outfit Wanderers FC.

A couple of defensive errors allowed Wanderers to take a two-goal lead before Pete Spong got Bradley back in the tie from the penalty spot midway through the half.

Wanderers regained a two-goal lead and although Dan Dominy struck for Bradley they were unable to fashion an equaliser before Wanderers struck their fourth of the afternoon.

A second for Dominy gave Bradley a glimmer of hope they were unable to grab a fourth despite going close on number of occasions.
