TREVOR Rawlings was delighted that his depleted Corsham Town side believed in themselves enough to progress past Roman Glass St George last weekend.

Corsham battled into the second round of the Les Phillips Cup with a 4-1 penalty shoot-out victory on Saturday, with Dan Lardner, Ryan Tyrell, Levi Cox and Jason Henley all scoring from the spot after the clash was tied at 3-3.

After Rawlings’ men found themselves 2-0 down at half-time, goals from Cox and Keiron Gleed forced extra-time, with winger Gleed netting his second only for Roman Glass to snatch a last-gasp equaliser.

“It was one of those days where we had a lot of people unavailable through injuries and things like work – we’ve got 20-odd we’d consider first-team players and we had eleven out,” said the Corsham boss.

“We didn’t play well in the first half but it was case of saying ‘hang on a minute - we’ve got a good enough side to win this’ at half-time.

“We had three goalkeepers in the 14, so young Lewis McCarron was our only real sub and he did really well when he came on.

“I thought we deserved to equalise and we deserved to go 3-2 up. But then they scored a bullet header out of nowhere with two minutes to go.

“I was always confident that we had good penalty-takers and Mark (Billingsley) made one good save too.”

Rawlings hopes to welcome back the likes of Matt Jenkins, Ben Moore, Danny Baker and Ollie Webb for next weekend’s Toolstation League First Division derby with Warminster Town.

But midfielder Nick Holton has left the club after emigrating to Australia.
